FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Delaware soybean growers are invited to put their best fields to the test in the 2026 Delaware Soybean Board Yield Contest. The contest recognizes outstanding yields while gathering valuable information about the soybean varieties and management practices that perform best across the state.

This year, the Delaware Soybean Board has purchased a new weigh wagon to make official harvest checks easier and more efficient, especially for fields producing large yields. The new equipment will help streamline the process and support greater participation in the contest.

“Sometimes the winning entry is simply the one that shows up,” said Delaware Soybean Board Chair, Tim Rogers. “With prizes available across multiple categories, we encourage every Delaware soybean grower with a strong field to enter.”

The contest includes non-irrigated, double-crop and full-season divisions, with statewide and county honors. Several awards have gone unclaimed in previous years because no eligible entries were submitted, meaning growers do not necessarily need a record-setting yield to win recognition and prize money.

Contest results also provide useful insight into the production strategies helping Delaware farmers increase yields and improve profitability under local growing conditions. By participating, growers contribute information that can benefit soybean production throughout the state.

About the Delaware Soybean Yield Contest

Established in 2012 and administered by the Delaware Soybean Board, the Delaware Soybean Yield Contest gathers information about the production practices used to achieve high soybean yields while recognizing the growers behind those results. The current contest record is held by Blaine Hitchens of Sussex County, who achieved a yield of 106.68 bushels per acre. Any grower with a contest field located entirely within Delaware is eligible to participate.
