FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Researchers are encouraged to submit original proposals that aim to maximize the profitability of soybean growers in the First State to the Delaware Soybean Board (DSB) by December 15, 2023. Research priorities for the upcoming year include, but are not limited to, increasing yield, controlling weeds and pests, responsible stewardship of the land, and expanding market opportunities.

“DSB reviews our research priorities annually to ensure that we are addressing challenges that local growers are facing,” says Chair Tim Rogers. “The results of the funded projects provide Delaware soybean farmers with information they need to make better management decisions.”

The Delaware Soybean Board funds soybean research on an annual basis to support the viability of soybean farmers in Delaware. Researchers who are interested in applying for soybean checkoff funding should consult the board’s Research Priorities and Guidelines as they develop their proposal. Proposals must be submitted on the board’s Application form to Danielle@desoybeans.org. All materials can be found on the board’s website, https://desoybeans.org/researchpage/.

Delaware farmers plant about 160,000 acres of soybeans annually, producing over seven million bushels of beans and generating approximately $60 million in value to the state. The Delaware Soybean Board consists of nine farmer-directors and the Secretary of Agriculture. Funded through a one-half of one percent assessment on the net market value of soybeans at their first point of sale, the checkoff works with partners in the value chain to identify and capture opportunities that increase farmer profit potential.
