Soybean Board sponsored “Farmer Appreciation Night” at Wilmington Blue Rocks

Blue Rocks Stadium 2The Delaware Soybean Board and United Soybean Board sponsored “Farmer Appreciation Night” as the Wilmington Blue Rocks took on the Lynchburg Hillcats Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013.

“This was an opportunity for farmers to come out, have a fun night with their family, and introduce themselves to consumers. It’s a great venue for outreach,” says Jesse Vanderwende, chairman of the Delaware Soybean Board.

Farmers who attended the game were provided with a baseball cap identifying them as farmers, and were asked to provide answers to questions from consumers as they played a “treasure hunt” game to learn more about Delaware agriculture.

The Delaware Department of Agriculture, Mar-Del Watermelon Association, Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association, and the University of Delaware College of Ag also had displays and activities at the game.

The Delaware Soybean Board and United Soybean Board are lead by farmer-directors who oversee the investments of the soybean checkoff program. The checkoff assesses one-half of one percent of the net market value of soybeans at the first point of sale to support research, marketing and education programs which benefit soybean farmers and the soybean industry.
